Halloween is just around the corner. Is your costume ready yet?
If not, we can help.
Think of AWMA.com as a kind of undercover superhero at this time of year. By day, AWMA provides martial artists and martial arts organizations with top-of-the-line martial arts gear. By night, we happen to offer a lot of great martial arts gear that would also make great Halloween costume gear.
Technically, anything available from AWMA.com could be incorporated into a Halloween costume. If you really wanted to, you could order an unfilled heavy bag, wear the outer layer, and go as a boxing gym. Or you could order dozens of throwing stars and fashion them into an elaborate cyberpunk cloak. The only limitations are your imagination, budget, and safety concerns. (Please be very careful and consider using rubber, foam, or plastic martial arts weapons if you would like to use training weapons in your costume ideas.)
If you’re already inspired, go forth and make the coolest martial arts gear-based costume you can think of! But if you need a little more encouragement, we’ve got five ready-to-wear costume ideas and five DIY tips to get you started.
Hot To Go Halloween Costumes
If you’re looking for a one stop shopping experience, here are five Halloween costumes that you can make entirely out of martial arts gear available on AWMA.com:
Rocky
You can bring a little eye of the tiger to your Halloween festivities by dressing like one of the most beloved fictional pugilists of all time. All you will need is satin boxing shorts, boxing footwear, hand wraps, and a pair of red boxing gloves. Top it off with a t-shirt or tank top (just like the beach training scenes from Rocky III) if you need to keep things appropriate outside of the ring.
If you don’t feel up to the task of being a beloved Philadelphia icon for the night, you could also mix up your color choices and go as a generic boxer. Or be your favorite real-life fighter.
The Karate Kid
Wax on, wax off, and whip up a quick and easy Daniel LaRusso costume in three easy steps. First, select a Karate gi in your size. (A lightweight Karate uniform is a comfortable and affordable choice for these purposes.) Second, find the right Karate belt to tie it all together. Third, top it off was a classic headband.
If you train in Karate and want to try this costume, we recommend checking with your sensei to see if they approve before you wear your uniform on the town. A gi that you’ve retired from training and competition could be a good alternative, though.
Ip Man
One potential downside to dressing up as Ip Man, a.k.a. Yip Man, the legendary Kung Fu master who trained Bruce Lee, is that you will never be the coolest person to portray him. But that’s only because modern day martial arts legends like Donnie Yen and Dennis To have played him on screen. You can still cut a very impressive figure without being quite as amazing as them. All you’ll need is a Kung Fu uniform and a pair of Kung Fu shoes.
Ninja
Sure, you could buy a prefab polyester ninja costume from your local seasonal costume store. For almost the same price, though, you could get a 100% Cotton Ninja Uniform from ProForce. Not only will you look and feel better, you’ll also have a proper martial arts uniform that you can use if you ever want to try some ninja lessons.
Mummy
If you don’t want to go with a martial arts or combat sports-themed costume, you’ve still got options at AWMA.com. For example, you can pull off a very comfortable and functional take on a Halloween classic with some basic martial arts gear. Take a few pairs of white 180” hand wraps. Wrap your hands and wrists as usual. Then keep going with the other pairs until the rest of your body is wrapped, too, until you’re properly mummified!
Halloween DIY Hacks
Whether you’re looking for the some finishing touches or crafting supplies, this martial arts gear will help you make the perfect costume.
Martial Arts Belts
Martial arts belts are a functional and stylish way to top off a wide variety of costumes. You can use them as a martial arts belt to dress up like your favorite human or mutant amphibian martial artists. Or you can get more creative and use them as accents for costumes that can be found anywhere from middle earth to a galaxy far, far away.
Training Weapons
Plastic, wood, and foam training weapons are a great way to accessorize a costume. Use them as is to top off your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume with training swords, sai, nunchucks, or a bo staff. Or you can get crafty and fashion a bo or sword into a lightsaber.
ProForce® Lightning Kick Boots
A pair of these vinyl covered foam sparring shoes in silver or black would comfortably and cooly finish off a good DIY robot or Cyberman costume.
Forearm and Instep Guards
If you’re planning a DIY superhero costume, cloth and foam-based sparring gear makes a great base for armor. ProForce® Combination Fist/Forearm Guard and ProForce® Combination Cloth Shin/Instep Guard are light and comfortable enough to wear in any weather conditions. And you can paint or embroider them to fit in with the rest of your costume.
Sparring Gear
If you want to go post-apocalyptic, a few random pieces of sparring gear will give you a quick, easy, and imposing Mad Max-esque vibe.
