We all know and love wearable art. But are you ready for fightable art?
Four years after it burst onto the scene with its first line of fashionable and functional martial arts pants, ProForce Sport has come out with yet another athleisure innovation: designer boxing gloves.
ProForce Sport® Boxing Gloves are constructed with all of the quality and care that you’ve come to expect from ProForce. Made from high quality leather, these gloves feature a pre-curved form fit, Thumb-Lok™ design, and a choice of hook and loop wrist strap with lace-up closure. They’re ideal for martial arts, boxing, cardio, and fitness training.
But they can also make a statement every bit as powerful as their punches with two bold limited edition design patterns. The Ballet And Bows Boxing Gloves boast an artistic fusion of ballet slipper, ribbon and carousel unicorn graphics on a vibrant pink leather exterior, neon green palm, and white purple, and green trim. The Mutant Chainlink Ninja Boxing Gloves are neon green with purple accents and sport ProForce’s classic ninja design. (Design also available on ProForce Sport® Chain Link Ninja Long Sleeve T Shirt and ProForce Sport® Chain Link Ninja Hoodie.)
How Boxing Gloves Became A Canvas
The decision to include boxing gloves in ProForce Sport’s offerings was as multifaceted as their designs. The line’s mastermind, video artist/musician/ Creative Director of Digital Media for AWMA and ProForce Christina Acevedo, took her cues everywhere from her own artistic motivations to AWMA’s clientele.
“There are so many creative ways to design boxing gloves because of their style and functionality so I just wanted to challenge myself,” she tells the AWMA Blog. “I also love the design of a classic boxing glove and mixing matching colors as well. So it was just out of fun and curiosity to explore the idea of what a ProForce Sport boxing glove would look like. So many of our customers box so it seemed like a good idea to follow through with.”

How Dance and Ninjas Became Boxing Art
The inspiration for the designs themselves came from a similarly diverse group of sources.
The art for the Ballet And Bows Boxing Gloves draws from both dancing and childhood treasures. “So many dancers wear ProForce Sport. Major shout out to ATD, whose members are always rocking our apparel. There was also always a link between dancing and martial arts in my mind – the two seem to go hand in hand in terms of endurance and flow,” says Acevedo. “The ballet slipper has also been some sort of iconic symbol for the ProForce Sport Brand within my designs, but the actual images were pulled from my childhood sticker book.”
The Mutant Chainlink Ninja Gloves take their cues from live and animated retro classics. “The brand has always been fun and inspired by parts of my childhood and this is one extension of that. The gloves come from my love of ninja films from the ’80s and ’90s and of course TMNT! Both styles of gloves are a cool contrast to one another but actually fit quite well together!”

Accessorizing With ProForce Sport
Speaking of things that go well together, the athleisure line has also released two new sets of designer handwraps that are, as Acevedo points out, “on brand with ProForce Sport’s main color.”
For the traditionalists, the black ProForce Sport® Handwraps with ProForce Sport’s logo in signature neon green add a pop of color to a classic handwrap look. If you want to get a little louder, ProForce Sport® Handwraps also come in that trademark neon green with a pink logo. Both sets are 150” (400cm) long, made with a durable, elasticated cotton blend, and feature a reinforced thumb loop and hook-and-loop closure to give you a comfortable fit that’s every bit as personalized as your style.

The Future of Fightable Art
Acevedo says that she’s open to making more designer training gear if inspiration strikes again.
In the meantime, she’s curious to see what other artists would do with boxing gloves as a medium. “It would be really fun to see designers and artists of all types make a boxing glove unique to their vision or style. Could you imagine if Picasso designed a boxing glove?”
